A fire hazard has caused a massive recall of refrigerators including some made by Jenn-Air, Amana, Admiral, Magic Chef, Maytag, Performa by Maytag and Crosley side by side and top freezer refrigerators sold between 2001 – 2004. Apparently the refrigerators had an electrical problem that could cause fires. There were at least 41 incidents reported where fires ignited because of the electrical problems. Product defects can be dangerous and lead to catastrophic consequences.

More than one million Canadian manufactured cribs have recently been recalled because of an alleged defective support bracket which could lead to suffocation of a child or the trapping of a child in the crib. Approximately 500,000 cribs have been recalled by Stork Craft baby cribs sold in the United States, including such stores as K-Mart and Wal-Mart. 

Consumers must be careful with over the counter dietary supplements. Recently, the Food and Drug Administration warned the public that a supplement known as Venom Hyperdrive 3.0 contains a controlled appetite suppressant called sibutramine which can cause increased blood pressure. This is particularly true for people who already have high blood pressure or a history of heart problems. This product was recently recalled by Applied Lifescience Research Industries Inc. after it was discovered to contain these high doses of sibutramine.
